Just Write Entry 12: Happiness vs Joy

,Just Write is written on a post-it taped to the inside of my computer. As I continue down the road of my own journey of self-development and discovery, I have challenged myself to wake-up each morning and JUST WRITE. These two words inspire me, even when I am feeling empty, to Just Write. I aim for twenty minutes each morning sometimes less, sometimes more, but I always walk away feeling better than I started. These blog entries are the product of following through on this commitment to myself. There is no rhyme or reason other than to Just Write. I am glad you are here. Perhaps I can inspire you to go more in the direction of vulnerability and curiosity  of how this simple act can play a part in your overall well-being when YOU JUST WRITE .

When your workout is a JOY... It is a JOY to workout.  Saw this yesterday and wrote it down because it captured me and caused me to PAUSE. STILLNESS has been a source of renewal and replenishment for me over the last year. I have done better to slow down and let the world around me inspire me in ways that continue to fill my cup rather than let it deplete me. The trigger word for me here is JOY and when associated with workout it just fit for today's Just Write entry. For purposes of inspiring YOU today,  take a moment and fill in the blank and attach this statement to yourself and take ownership of your JOY today or at the very least start questioning where is a source of JOY in your life. When your __________ is a JOY. It is a JOY to ________.  When we do something that brings us JOY we shine brighter, smile bigger, walk lighter, and our energy attracts others to you in a way that inspires others' to SHINE BRIGHTER too.  My workout is a big source of my happiness as I love to move my body in  way that fuels me from the inside out. When I challenge myself in my daily workout it oozes out into the rest of my day and I one-hundred percent have a better day than when I skip a workout. For me, my personal workout brings me HAPPINESS, but it is through TEACHING fitness that brings me JOY. I do believe there is a difference between the two, but are rooted from the same seed that we have to plant, nurture and grow. HAPPINESS + JOY are both an inside job, manifested from ourselves. Others can contribute to your happiness, perhaps even materialistic things can temporarily add to your happiness, . but JOY is something we create. No amount of things, money, objects can manifest JOY only we can do that.

I once read happiness is somewhere between how far we have come and where we are headed. Reflection is something I put into practice often and when I reflect on past experiences I would agree happiness is in our growth. When we are challenging ourselves in the present along with goal setting of what we want to accomplish and where we want to end up, happiness ensues. The satisfaction of achieving a goal, no matter how small or big creates momentum and is a source of self-motivation to continue to head more in this direction.   Happiness is  temporary so to reach our destination of finding JOY in something we need to continue to create new goals, push our boundaries, and go boldly in the direction of dreaming bigger and trying new things that make us sweat, mind, body and soul. We need to become better listeners too. Listening to our bodies, mind and allowing the natural world inspire us at any moment.  JOY is discovered when we can connect purpose and passion to what we are doing at anytime. I gave you my example and the difference between the two:

My personal workout brings me HAPPINESS, but it is through TEACHING fitness that brings me JOY.

Through teaching, coaching and motivating others through fitness I have found one of my passions and through this discovery I have found one source of my PURPOSE and JOY.  As I mentioned above happiness is fluid, temporary and can be influenced by outside factors such as objects and other people. Joy, on the other hand is intangible and can only be manifested from the inside out. No amount of possessions or money can contribute to it. JOY is ours for the taking and colors our world so vividly and vibrantly. JOY fills our HEART and SOUL, but is a journey that can only be taken by YOU, but will you take the first step?

Enjoy the Journey.  Your best LIFE is waiting for you on the other side of FEAR. I believe in YOU, but do YOU believe in you?

xo,
