We are Community

, Just Write is written on a post-it taped to the inside of my computer. As I continue down the road of my own journey of self-development and discovery, I have challenged myself to wake-up each morning and JUST WRITE. These two words inspire me, even when I am feeling empty, to Just Write. I aim for twenty minutes each morning sometimes less, sometimes more, but I always walk away feeling better than I started. These blog entries are the product of following through on this commitment to myself. There is no rhyme or reason other than to Just Write. I am glad you are here. Perhaps I can inspire you to go more in the direction of vulnerability and curiosity  of how this simple act can play a part in your overall well-being when YOU JUST WRITE .

WE are Community. Our community is a strong as our contribution to it. In the past, I would think of community as the neighborhood I live in simply co-existing with the others that live in my zip code. Living my day-to-day with my family and a social circle of friends to laugh and live life with. Although I am not wrong, my view on community, what it stands for, where you find it, how you create it and the power it holds has expanded well beyond what I once thought it was. Community exists because WE exist. Community transitions from simply existing to living, breathing, healing, loving, by the people who lead with their heart. Community is around us  and surrounds us all the time, but too often we are so consumed in ourselves that we do not even recognize it when we see it. I am not saying we are selfish rather self-centered in a way that hinders our ability to see where we can contribute to our community. To serve others is a gift and when you treat it as such you continue to unwrap gifts around you all of the time. Even when you think you have nothing to GIVE the GIFT is finding the light in ourselves even on our darkest days.  I write about what comes into my mind on any Miracle Morning and since our most recent  30 Day Brown Paper Bag Connection Challenge was to seek out a volunteer opportunity I felt inspired to Just Write about it today.

          COMMUNITY=CONNECTION=LOVE and CREATES PURPOSE

When we can give our time, energy, compassion, and kindness by contributing to those we know well, those we may know for only a season or a moment and sometimes not at all OUR community strengthens. Our CONNECTION to each other and ourselves strengthens. Our LOVE strengthens and therefore PURPOSE ensues. When you can create and manifest purpose in your life that not only affects yourself,  you feel....differently. You may even notice that on days you are down and you are feeling empty you do not stay there as long because others need you. Your contribution matters, YOU matter, and the GIFTS you hold.   SHIFTING from just a consumer in our community to a contributor takes practice. Think of SERVING others as a muscle. The more you use it and apply it to your day-to-day the more POWERFUL it becomes. Some days you will feel stronger than others, but it is important to know that once you begin to develop this muscle it is always there. You have changed because of your INTENTIONAL EFFORTS to develop it.  Now, it may become smaller, weaker, when not EXERCISED often, but it does EXIST because you CREATED it and YOU exist. The more you BUILD this muscle the more you want to NURTURE it and will often spill out to other areas of your life. No need to worry, this is not a SPILL that creates havoc, stress and just another mess you have to clean up. Quite the opposite is true. This SPILL will begin to FLOW into other areas of yourself and when you begin to SPILL you are more than just existing. YOU are living, breathing, healing, loving and contributing to yourself and you community in a way that creates community, connection, love and purpose.

How will you EXERCISE your COMMUNITY muscle today?
